Okay – now I’m excited!! I’m done chemo! Thank you God! Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! I’d do a little praise dance if I had the energy…
Yesterday was my last chemotherapy session. The day did not start off well. This was the first time that I had to wait to start my chemo – about THREE hours. I was at the hospital at 8:30am, and didn’t get into the clinic till about 11:30. It was ridiculous. But that might have been a good thing – because I ended up getting the private room with a bed (instead of a chair) and the sweetest nurse ever, Janet. I’m telling you, having a great nurse makes the experience a million times better.
The Benadryl did a number on me again – I was sooo tired through the whole thing. My brother kept me company for part of it, and I fell asleep on him so many times! And I think the infusions were done a little more slowly than before. But I was so happy when it was done…
It’s amazing. When I was first told at the end of June that I had 6 sessions of chemotherapy to do, I remember thinking, “Only 6 sessions. Once every three weeks. Very doable.” I had completely underestimated how trying it was going to be, and just how long that 18 weeks would feel. By session three I was ready for it all to end! It will take months for some of the side-effects to go away, like my hair growing back, and my taste returning, but the worst is almost over. I just have to get through this next week of the worst chemo side-effects, be patient with the rest, and I essentially can close the chemotherapy chapter of the lymphoma chronicles.
So that’s the end of that. While I’m grateful for the drugs and so thankful that they’ve been working, I’m very, very happy to put this part behind me. I can barely wrap my head around it. After all these months, no more R-CHOP.
No more injections of the red death.
No more infusion pumps.
No more long days in the hospital.
I’m a happy woman right now.
