Lymphoma Canada is excited to announce that the Romeo De Gasperis Tribute Gala held on June 11, 2012 raised 2.25 million dollars – a tremendous success! These funds will go a long way towards funding Canadian lymphoma research, as well as our work to educate patients, families, and healthcare professionals and provide much needed support to the Canadian lymphoma community.
The event was attended by more than 1,200 friends, family and business associates of the DeGasperis family. “We actually put a very ambitious fundraising goal of $1.5 million for tonight’s event and I am thrilled to say we beat it. In fact, thanks to your generosity, I’m thrilled to announce that this dinner has raised $2.25 million,” said Mr. DeGasperis to the audience. “This is an incredible accomplishment. Thank you very much for that – I’m really overwhelmed. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for supporting Lymphoma Canada.”
Mr. DeGasperis is a local businessman who has been diagnosed with lymphoma twice, and has been cancer free for several years. He considers himself lucky because he has lots of good people in his life. But he met people during his treatment who were not as lucky as he was, and he wanted to do something to help them.
“I saw the hopelessness in a lot of the people – I never had that feeling. That was the reason I wanted to give back,” he said.
And give back he has.
- To fund medical research to find a cure for lymphatic cancer
- To advocate for the best treatment and care for lymphoma patients
- To promote further research and new treatments in lymphoma and to promote rapid access to new developments
