Lea Rana, a mom of three, wanted to put a fresh new spin on the traditional birthday party for her kids. In searching for a way to make her children’s special day even more meaningful, she came across ECHOage, an online party planning platform that allows a child to give a portion of their birthday funds to charity. The child and their family simply select the charity of their choice, along with the percentage of their gifts that they would like to donate, and ECHOage does the rest.
The party guests had no complaints! Parents simply gave the money that they would have used to buy a gift through ECHOage’s secure website, and received a tax receipt directly from the charity. No time wasted worrying about the perfect gift, and no wrapping! Even more appealing, it taught their children the importance of giving back and sharing their gifts- a win-win. Many parents and their kids have decided to do the same thing for their own parties as well. ECHOage works for all types of parties and celebrations.
Roughly six years ago, Lea’s father, and grandfather to her three children, completed his treatments for lymphoma cancer. As a result, Lymphoma Canada was a cause close to the family’s heart which is why her children chose us as the recipient charity for their birthday parties – “because it’s what Papa had”. We thank the Rana family for selecting us, and for making a difference in the lives of the patients we continue to serve. And we applaud the Rana children for their selfless choice to share their gifts with others, in honour of their Papa.
